My name is Amos Koffa and I am currently a senior at the Burlington County Institute of Technology in Medford, New Jersey. I will be graduating in June 2017. Throughout my high school career I have managed to maintain a 4.0 grade point average while participating in multiple extracurricular activities. I have attended academic and performing arts program at Princeton and Yale University. I have been nationally recognized by GLSEN, (the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network) Janet Mock, (a New York Times Best-Selling Author) and Michael Sam (first openly gay player drafted by NFL) for my LGBT+ activism. Recently, I was named the New Jersey Poetry Out Loud (Poetry Recitation Contest) 2017 State Champion. In April I will be competing in the national competition. Through this contest I was able to raise five-hundred dollars for my school. I decided that the money should go towards putting more inclusive books in our school library. In the future I hope to be a spoken word artist that releases poetry albums. In the fall I will be attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, majoring in social work.
