Kathryn Song currently attends Montgomery High School, and will graduate this year as the Class of 2017. She began her studies in music at age six with piano, but transitioned to the violin in fourth grade. Despite not making the top orchestra in her first year of violin, Kathryn persevered, and now has been awarded the Montgomery High School Academic Achievement Award for music three years in a row. After making the New Jersey All-State Orchestra since freshman year, she is now a member of this year’s NAfME All-Eastern Orchestra. Additionally, Kathryn is a first violinist in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, which performs in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts. Kathryn frequently participates in chamber music, and has played in numerous groups such as the Cantabile Trio. Outside of music, Kathryn writes for the township newspaper, and serves as the editor for her school newspaper. She will be attending the University of Chicago in the fall, and hopes to continue her experience with music in the university’s symphony orchestra.
