NAEP: The Arts Education Report Card
National Center for Education Statistics
January-01-97
In 1997, the “Arts Assessment Report Card” tested students in their abilities to respond to, perform, and create in the arts disciplines. Under the National Assessment of Educational Progress, this measure of the arts found that students in the United States receive different degrees of instruction in the various art forms but not a high degree of instruction in any of them. The results were not impressive but the study did show that instruction makes a difference in student achievement in all three of the tested domains.
