Ananya Sankar is a junior at Montgomery High School. She is an honors and AP student, who has consistently been awarded the Principal’s Honor Roll throughout her high school academic career. Additionally, in school, she is actively involved in a number of debate activities. This year, Ananya was voted to be a YMCA Model United Nations Officer. In the past two years of her involvement in Model United Nations, Ananya has won several awards and a nomination as a future Chair. She is also a part of her school’s Cross Country team. Following the end of the season, she began volunteering as the leader of Kids on the Move, a program to get middle schoolers to be more active. Dance encompasses a majority of Ananya’s after-school
activities, and she also runs her school’s Bollywood Dance Team Monty Muqabla, which has performed at over 10 venues in the past two years. She has been learning and performing the classical South Indian dance form Bharatanatyam for the past 11 years. Ananya enjoys choreographing dances and has received the IIT Youth Achievement Award for one of her pieces. She has also received over 20 awards performing Indian classical dance.
