Cailyn Trapp of Paramus, New Jersey, is a high school senior at Paramus High School. Cailyn demonstrates a strong passion and commitment to both dance and academics. After a full day of school, including involvement in the Dance 4 Honors program and the Spartanettes Dance Company, Cailyn spends her evenings training at Creative Edge Dance Academy. Through dedication, hard work, and discipline, Cailyn has won prestigious awards and scholarships at multiple competitions while maintaining a 4.2 GPA in school. Alongside her busy schedule, Cailyn finds time to work out at CrossFit The Rack, to become stronger and a more well-rounded dancer.

What does receiving a New Jersey Governor’s Award in Arts Education mean to you? As a competitive dancer, I did not have time to participate in a lot of the programs offered at school. I am grateful that the dance program at PHS enabled me to have school pride and now be acknowledged for it.
How has receiving this award influenced your artistic journey and future aspirations? This award confirms to me that if I work hard, I can have the ability to pursue dance at a higher level.
What advice would you give to young artists who are just beginning their journey in arts education? Don’t ever let the opinions of someone else define you. Dance for yourself, your own joy, and growth.
