Jonathan Harris

Jonathan Harris began his teaching career in 1999 and served as Director of Instrumental Music at Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest from 2003 to 2014. In that role, he directed the Concert Band, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Beginner Band, Orchestra, and Pit Orchestra for the All School Musical, for which he also served as business manager. Under his leadership, Northern Valley’s instrumental ensembles consistently earned top honors at festivals and competitions throughout the East Coast. The Marching Norsemen were selected to perform at the 2012 NFL Season Kickoff and participate in the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVIII, both at MetLife Stadium. Mr. Harris was nominated for the 2014–2015 Grammy Music Educator Award.

In July 2014, Mr. Harris was appointed Supervisor of Related Arts for the Northern Valley Regional High School District. As supervisor, he has led curriculum development across the arts and World Languages, including the implementation of a district wide curricular theatre program. He has served on the executive boards of the North Jersey School Music Association (Region I) and the Music Educators of Bergen County, Inc., and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Music Administrators Association. He has also conducted the Bergen County Band and the Junior Region Band.

Mr. Harris holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from William Paterson University, a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Connecticut, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati. He lives in Denville, New Jersey, with his wife, two daughters, and their Old English Sheepdog.
