Layla Maravetz was born and raised in Hunterdon County. They are a senior at Voorhees High School and are currently in their second year of the 3D Computer Animation program at Hunterdon County Polytech. They have been interested in art since they were about two years old and they enjoy working in a variety of media. Next year, Layla will continue their artistic journey at Maine College of Art & Design where they will study 3D Animation and Game Arts. They are drawn to the Animation field because of its blend of art, technical aspects, and teamwork.

What does receiving a New Jersey Governor’s Award in Arts Education mean to you? Receiving a New Jersey Governor's Award in Arts Education is the validation that my hard work and dedication to my art has paid off.

How has receiving this award influenced your artistic journey and future aspirations? This award has increased my confidence in my artistic skills and in pursuing art as a career.

Can you share a specific experience in arts education that had a profound impact on your development as an artist? A specific experience has been having an extremely knowledgeable and dedicated art teacher that pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow as an artist more than I ever had.

What advice would you give to young artists who are just beginning their journey in arts education? My advice would be to continue to pursue art education and to not be discouraged if someone questions whether you can make a career out of it.
